Reducing carbon emissions in Serbia with biomass

Carlsberg Serbia’s Čelarevo brewery has made progress towards our target of eliminating carbon emissions at our breweries with the introduction of a new biomass boiler.

The biomass used by the new boiler house is powered by wood pellets, and combined with the pre-existing waste water treatment biogas facility, Čelarevo brewery has more than doubled its use of renewable energy in the production process to 40%.

"THIS IS AN IMPORTANT EXAMPLE OF HOW WE ARE DIVERSIFYING OUR FUEL AND MOVING FURTHER IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TOWARDS OUR TARGET OF ZERO CARBON EMISSIONS AT OUR BREWERIES IN OUR GLOBAL SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMME, TOGETHER TOWARDS ZERO."

- said Adam Pawelas, Environment & Utilities Director.

The latest in biomass boiler technology is designed to be clean and easy to operate, with automated equipment and a small footprint. It does not create dispersed dust emissions, keeps high efficiency comparable with gas boilers and meets strict emission standards.
